Review: Off to Medieval times– thoughts on first book in May’s list

So the first book on my May’s reading list is Under the Approaching Dark by Anna Belfrage. This is actually the 3rd book in the series and we have waited several, several months for this release, but here is why I’m excited it’s finally here.

  1. Anna Belfrage– I LOVE Anna’s books, in fact her other series, The Graham Saga is definitely in my top 5 series list!  It’s an 8 book time travel series set in the 1600s. The leads are not Jamie and Claire but do endear you to them in their own way..Her books are lengthy and each series ties book to book with continuous characters which will ALWAYS attract me.
  2. The Story– The King’s Greatest Enemy series is a solid story set in Medieval times.. yes, with knights in shining armor, damsels in distress, worthless weak Kings, the whole 9 yards, but I’m not afraid to admit, I LOVE THAT STUFF!!!

  3. The Genre– more historical fiction than romance, it does have a nice little love story between the two leads that keeps it exciting.  With that said, this series does bog down a bit with the political manuevers of the time, and that is a bit where book #2 lost me, but I am hopeful that we get back to the love story of Adam and Kit in book 3 as book #1 was very centered around that.

Since book #2 seems so long ago, I am concerned it will take a bit to get back into the series, so I don’t have much to predict in way of where I think the story will go, all I remember from book 2 is politics… babies… more politics… save the king… babies… save the king again, more politics.. So I will predict book #3 to go much the same way, but I’m up for a history lesson disguised as a love story, and I’m excited to get started.
